The Rowan Building

In September 2022, the Rowan Building (formally known as the East Hull City Learning Centre) was purposefully re-designed to create a nurturing environment suitable for Year 7 pupils. Each classroom has been focused on different learning spaces promoting both independent and group work. The curriculum has been tailored to incorporate Outdoor Education, a more hands-on way of learning.  The ‘Rec’ Room has multiple spaces, from soft furnishing to relax in, to a reading corner as well as a pool and ping pong table.

The Rowan Building also have a construction area. These flexible spaces offer choices for each pupil. The purpose is to create a structured transition for pupils by providing familiarity with the new environment and ethos that will continue into the main school. The pupils have an opportunity to establish an understanding of the schools’ expectations in a safe environment with consistent staff. The curriculum develops over the academic year as they prepare to integrate fully into the main school in Year 8.

The Rowan Building also has a nurturing base for the more vulnerable pupils in KS3 and KS4. The nurturing and consistent approach meetings the needs of those pupils as well.
